Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 is an exciting step after Reception, where children build on the strong foundations developed in Early Years. Throughout the year, they grow in confidence, independence and responsibility, supported by our dedicated team: Mr Bradley, Miss K, Miss Manyanda and Miss Rakhra.

Children continue to develop their reading, writing and maths skills while strengthening letter formation, pencil grip and handwriting.

Learning is enriched through experiences beyond the classroom, including a zoo trip to support Science learning about animal groups and a visit to Sycamore Adventure to develop teamwork, curiosity and resilience.

At the end of Year 1, children take part in the Phonics Screening Check, which assesses their phonics knowledge and ability to read words, helping ensure they are developing strong early reading skills.
